Sean Misahra

Professional Counselor

I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 5 years of experience and an Army Combat Veteran who retired after 26 years of military service. I have extensive experience working with veterans, active-duty military members, first responders, and their families as they navigate stress, trauma, life transitions, readjustments, and relationship challenges. I believe people are resilient and capable of meaningful change, even during difficult seasons of life. My goal is to provide a supportive, practical, and judgment-free space where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered.

My approach is collaborative, goal-oriented, and grounded in evidence-based practices. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), mindfulness, and other evidence-based techniques based on each client’s needs. I focus on helping clients develop practical tools they can apply in everyday life while working toward measurable progress. I also believe that humor, authenticity, and a strong therapeutic connection can play important roles in healing.

In our first session, we’ll talk about what brings you to therapy, the challenges you’re facing, and the goals you’d like to achieve. I work to create a relaxed, comfortable environment where you can speak openly without judgment or pressure. Together, we’ll begin identifying the next practical steps and develop a plan tailored to your needs. My goal is to help therapy feel productive, supportive, and focused on helping you move forward as efficiently as possible.

Tips for veterans when utilizing Mission Welcome Home's Counseling & Wellness service

Define What You're Looking For: Before meeting with a counselor, take a moment to think about what you'd like support with. Whether it's stress, anxiety, relationship challenges, or processing your military experience, having a sense of your goals helps guide the first conversation.

Research Your Counselor: Look into the counselors partnered with Mission Welcome Home. Look for providers who have experience working with veterans and understand military culture. Consider their credentials, areas of specialty, and approach to care.

Come as You Are: There's no need to prepare anything formal. Simply come ready to share what's on your mind, at whatever pace feels comfortable.

Communicate Openly: Clearly share your concerns, needs, and goals with your counselor. Be honest about what you're experiencing. The more open you are, the better they can support you.

Ask Questions: Don't hesitate to ask about the counseling process, different approaches to therapy, or anything you're unsure about. A good counselor will explain things clearly and at your pace.

Give It Time: Building trust with a counselor takes time. It's normal for the first session or two to feel like you're just getting to know each other, stick with it.

Be Honest About What's Working (and What's Not): If something isn't resonating, say so. Counseling works best when it's a two-way conversation.

Stay Consistent: Regular sessions tend to lead to better outcomes. Try to keep a consistent schedule with your counselor as you work through your goals together.

Lean on Your Support System Too: Counseling is one part of overall wellness. Continue leaning on family, friends, and community as you go through this process.

Recognize Your Progress: Take a moment to acknowledge your growth along the way. Reaching out for support is itself a sign of strength.
